Editorial Standards & How We Make Our Content

Last updated: 6 June 2026

The Group Stage is an independent 2026 World Cup hub. This page explains who is behind the site, how we research and write, where our data comes from, and how we use automation, so you can judge our work for yourself.

Who is behind the analysis

The site is edited by a named, accountable person rather than published anonymously. Every preview, prediction and explainer is reviewed before it goes live.

  • Zach Nichols, Founder & Editor, The Group Stage. Zach Nichols is the founder and editor of The Group Stage, where he covers the 2026 World Cup. He builds the site's data pipeline and reviews its previews and predictions, pairing live prediction-market prices with team-by-team analysis.

Where our data comes from

  • Title & match odds: live prices from the prediction market Polymarket, with a transparent model estimate shown as a fallback when a live market is unavailable. We always label which one you are seeing.
  • Rankings & seedings: FIFA world rankings at the time of writing.
  • Fixtures, venues & broadcast info: the publicly announced 2026 World Cup schedule, host venues and broadcasters.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help research, draft and structure parts of our coverage, for example, first drafts of team and matchup previews and player profiles, which let us cover all 48 teams and every group-stage fixture in depth. We are transparent about this because we think you deserve to know.

What that means in practice:

  • AI assists with drafting and structure; it does not publish on its own. A person reviews analysis for accuracy and edits before it is published.
  • Odds, rankings, dates and results are pulled from the data sources above, not invented by a language model.
  • We aim to add a genuine point of view, not recycle commodity facts. If a page does not add something useful beyond what you could already find, it does not belong here.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, especially with a tournament this large. If you spot an error, email contact@thegroupstage.com and we will fix it and note material corrections.

Independence & affiliate disclosure

The Group Stage is not affiliated with FIFA. We earn affiliate commissions from prediction-market links (e.g. Polymarket). This never changes our analysis or the odds we report. Markets are for adults 18+, please trade responsibly. See our Terms for full disclosures.
